IN THE NEWS: PETERBOROUGH DEBUT OF THE GREAT CANADIAN CHEESE FESTIVAL A RESOUNDING SUCCESS
We are incredibly grateful for the warm reception at our new home! Following a weekend filled with delicious pairings and community connection, we are happy to share that The Peterborough Examiner recently highlighted the success of the Great Canadian Cheese Festival’s debut at the historic Morrow Building.
The move to Peterborough marks an exciting milestone for PEC Markets as we continue our mission to connect talented local and national artisan makers with passionate food lovers.

“…everything it was cracked up to brie” — Festival visitors Angela Roberts and Kayla Noseworthy, speaking to The Peterborough Examiner
A Celebration of Canadian Craftsmanship
Following months of preparation by our executive team—led by Patricia McDermott—the festival brought the Morrow Building to life on June 13 and 14. The two-day event gathered nearly 80 vendors from across Canada, offering visitors an opportunity to discover and support independent cheesemakers, artisan food producers, and craft beverage creators.
For our team, seeing the community come together to support these small businesses is the ultimate reward.
Highlights from the Weekend
According to the feature in The Peterborough Examiner, the festival served as a vibrant showcase for regional tourism and Ontario’s growing culinary scene:
- The Marketplace: Attendees enjoyed unlimited sampling, meeting the producers directly, and purchasing an exceptional variety of specialty cheeses and artisan foods.
- Tutored Tastings: Our signature intimate pairing sessions returned, successfully matching premium Canadian cheeses with curated selections of wines, ciders, spirits, and craft beverages.
- A New Community Hub: The Morrow Building proved to be a wonderful, accessible venue for gathering food lovers from across Ontario.
At PEC Markets, we are proud to foster spaces where craftsmanship, local agriculture, and community connect. Thank you to our incredible vendors, volunteers, and everyone who joined us in Peterborough to make this weekend so memorable. We look forward to sharing more delicious journeys with you in the future.
Warmly,
Rosalind
